4D fine art 4.10.22

Today we were given time to sit with a partner and talk about what we wanted to include in our pieces/experiment with in today’s workshop. I realised that I was so focused on making a stunning eye catching final piece that I was getting stuck on aspects of my project. Today I’m just going to try and first experiment with my components and maybe come up with a fresher idea.

q. how did you respond to the ways of working the 4D workshop introduced you to or that it involved?

I definitely have the problem of skipping to thinking about what the final outcome will look like with any new idea that I have. This does tend to hinder my experimentation, but today I tried my best to completely forget about the final product and simply try new things out. I enjoyed simply just putting things on paper, my body, walls, and taking pictures, comparing, without any worries. I definitely would've never stepped foot into 3D rendering my final outcome if I hadn't. Exploring another version of ourselves is very intimate as its sort of a self exploration anyway, so cutting out my face and working with my face practically everywhere for two days, made me feel as though I understood my art and myself better by the end of it. I started with the concept of me as a traditional bride and being unable to voice my opinions, a version that is completely the opposite of my usual outspoken self. However I had no idea how I wanted to portray that. I put cutout mouths in a ziplock bag, stuck them to me, stapled them on plastic bags and even made jewellery out of them. Eventually I was able to decide which combination I thought was best. I immensely enjoyed doing different things and making it feel more interactive which I tried to incorporate in our final display/crit as well.

q. how does 4D differ to the other Fine Art Pathway areas?

A lot of the other pathways are a bit set in their ways which I found comfortable as it put a constraint on what we could potentially come up with. This helps me as I tend to become insecure when briefs are more vague. However, with the 4D pathway, the entire environment felt very judgement free which pushed me to be more explorative. I also think fine art 4D in particular breaks some of the barriers that painting, sculpture or illustration put up. It is simply a representation or message embodied in its most accessible way. I think it is a very powerful way of putting your work in the world.

q. is 4D Fine Art a pathway that interests you Y/N and explain why.

Fine art is a pathway that I have done almost my entire life. Even though I know that there are many things that I haven't learnt, I am very comfortable with it. I think what I most like is how interactive it is. You are in a constant state of 'doing', which is definitely something that I require. I also enjoy the creative freedom that comes with fine art, but I also am incredibly intimidated by it. I think I enjoy working when given at least a few limitations. However, overall I really enjoyed this project and am definitely going to take 4D fine art into consideration when picking my preferences.
